Open Solutions :: PBX Systems

Open Solutions PBX Open Solutions uses a software based PBX system called Asterisk to provide a fully featured PBX for small, medium and large businesses (from two to thousands of users). Our PBX has all of the features of any and all commercial hardware PBX systems put together and more to boot.

More importantly, our PBX system is extensible and programmable so we can add any feature your business might need now or in the future. Also, because it's software based, it's also future proof.

Standard Features

Open Solutions' Asterisk-based PBX has all the features you'd expect from a normal PBX system:

  • support for ISDN BRI, FRA and PRI lines, VoIP trunks (SIP, IAX, H323 and more), GSM (mobile) modules and PSTN/analog lines (FXO/FXS);
  • DID (direct inward dial) number ranges for any of the above;
  • voicemail including a web based voicemail interface and voicemail to e-mail;
  • ATA (auto attendant), IVR (interactive voice response);
  • least-cost routing, call conferencing, music on hold, etc.

Additional features that can be configured include call queueing for call centre applications, call recording and monitoring, web based interfaces for management and reporting, computer-telephony integration (CTI), and remote/sub office or home worker set-ups.

PBX Hardware

Open Solutions' PBX systems have three distinct parts as well as a number of add-on components.

The PBX CPU

This is the heart of the PBX and that which connects all the internal phones to each other as well connecting to the external trunks (ISDN, VoIP, etc). It comes as a standard PC with optional modules. Depending on your requirements, we can provide redundant hardware configurations, rack-mountable CPUs, etc.

Hardware components include the cards needed to connect the PBX to ISDN BRI/PRI lines, GSM modules, etc. The configuration and number of these will depend on your own existing or planned telephone lines.

Desk Phones

Linksys SPA942 Our preferred desk phone is the Linksys IP Phone model SPA922 or SPA942. The primary difference between the two is the number of lines per phone (namely one or four). [click for a larger image]

These phones support all standard features (in conjunction with our PBX system) that our customers would expect; these include: call transfer; do not disturb; voicemail LED notification; LCD display with caller ID and missed call display; call pick-up; conference calls; call forward; hands free (speaker) operation as well as headset support; mute and adjustable call and ring volume.

Linksys SPA962 For receptionists and other high-call volume users, we supply SPA962s with attendant consoles showing the status of the other office phones as shown on the right.

We can also supply or integrate other manufacturers or models including wireless phones with similar features as mobile phones and conference room systems.

A POE Switch

All our phones are powered by POE (Power Over Ethernet). This means each phone only needs a single network cable which both powers it and allows it to communicate with the PBX CPU.

We will provide a switch suitable to your current size and planned growth.

As an optional add-on, we can provide desk phones that include a built in two port switch - this means each location only needs a single network cable to supply both the users desktop PC and telephone.
