Linux Engineer / PHP Developer

Open Solutions has an immediate requirement for a Linux Engineer / PHP Developer.

Because of the type of business we are in and the customers we support, we also look for multi - skilled people. No one in Open Solutions wears a single cap with a well defined job - working for Open Solutions means you can hop between working for any number of customers using different technologies on a daily basis as well as engage is pressured fire-fighting for customers with immediate issues right through to a well defined project for a number of weeks. If nothing else, it's interesting!

Right now we need someone to fill a role that in envisaged to be about 50/50 between Linux server administration and PHP application development. Often these go hand in hand (install, build and configure a new application and then expose it for management via a web application).

Desired Skills / Knowledge

  • Strong knowledge of networking services (DNS/POP3/SMTP/SNMP/HTTP/etc) and related applications (Bind/Dovecot/Postfix/Apache/and varients) required;
  • experience managing Linux and other open-source operating systems essential, scripting ability essential, experience with commercial Unix, such as Solaris, an advantage;
  • an understanding of and the ability to configure and build custom Linux kernels an advantage;
  • software development experience in PHP required;
  • ability to install, configure, run, and scale most ISP services an advantage;
  • experience with project-management and development software such as CVS, Subversion, etc;
  • experience and understanding of firewalls and network security a significant advantage;
  • experience of backup software an advantage;
  • hardware diagnostic skills would be desirable;
  • own car and full driving license desirable but not required;
  • the dreaded words: a commitment to create and maintain accurate and informative documentation of your work;
  • Asterisk and VoIP experience a significant advantage.
